Unless you live under a rock, you've heard about ABC reporter
Bob Woodruff's extraordinary piece on his experience being
wounded in Iraq and his long road to recovery

Here,
Imus discusses the report:
Tonight, we were surprised that O'Reilly's Talking Points Memo mentioned Woodruff's
experience. What it failed to mention was the main thrust of the piece, which
highlighted the failings of the government to acknowledge and treat the number of
soldiers with traumatic head injuries and the some 200,000 Iraq and Afghanistan
vets seeking treatment from the VA.

Still, O'Reilly did call on his viewers to support the returning troops, stating:

"This is a good time for all of us to help wounded vets."

Sadly, Bill's way of helping wounded vets is encouraging his viewers to help raise
$40 million for an American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial in Washington, D.C.

O'Reilly called for individual and corporate donations, noting
"since we have more
corporate CEOs watching than most other news programs, we hope you ladies
and gentlemen will help out."
Yeah, Bill, maybe the CEO of Larry's Heating and
Cooling in Tuscaloosa.

O'Reilly mentioned that “clear-thinking Americans” understand the vital role of the
military and their sacrifices all over the world. This is true, Bill. However, most
"clear-thinking Americans" also understand that when you fight for your country and
sustain a fucking head wound that limits you mentally and physically for the rest of
your life, you’d rather be given adequate care and rehabilitation and a little financial
help for your family than a monument on the other side of the country.

So while O'Reilly and his "support the troops" crowd like to think it can be done with
magnetic ribbons and memorials, Woodruff's report shows
it’ll take more.
